Living out of suitcases

We’ve been living out of suitcases now for 21 days…even though I’ve never been to Khajuraho, just couldn’t bring myself to go out when we were there. Instead we took the time to relax in the hotel, with 24hr internet (Rs. 800) and watched Indian soap operas on TV. This little luxury of having an Internet and not having to be on the go every minute just felt so nice!

The Indian soap operas are so funny – the women dress up in these beautiful expensive sharees and elaborate jewelry, then sit in their living room cutting vegetables! And the stories are so similar – usually a conflict between the Saas (mother-in-law) and Bahu (daughter-in-law). The expressions on the faces are exaggerated. The relationships are complicated. The Saas are controlling, manipulative and catastrophizing and the men subservient. The Bahus are either perfect or seriously flawed basket cases. Yet the emphasis is big on family – staying together in large joint families and making it all work. So entertaining!

Our group tour ended Jan 5 and Jer will be heading back today -ish (3:30am on the 7th). The last 21 days just flew by! We’re back in Delhi and enjoying our lovely hotel. I have 10 more sleeps in India and then meeting my parents in Bangladesh. So I’m sad about Jer (lifeline) leaving, excited about meeting my classmates and super excited about meeting my parents.

This one is going to be a short post, just to say hello. If you are reading the blog, please do drop a line to say hi. Would be nice to hear from you.
